The role:
As a Domestic and Family Violence Specialist Worker (Aboriginal Focus), you will provide critical support to Aboriginal women and children experiencing domestic and family violence. You will conduct risk assessments, safety planning, and offer court advocacy to ensure clients are supported throughout legal processes, including Apprehended Domestic Violence Order proceedings.

Your work will involve building and maintaining partnerships with courts, police, and community services to improve access and responsiveness for Aboriginal clients. Community engagement and outreach will be key to fostering trust and awareness of available services, while your insights will inform service delivery tailored to the needs of Aboriginal families. You will also participate in cultural events and contribute to the development of resources that support ongoing client needs.

Requirements:
  • Aboriginality as defined by the Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983 (NSW)
  • Strong understanding of domestic and family violence issues impacting Aboriginal communities
  • Knowledge of the criminal justice system’s response to domestic violence, including legal processes such as AVOs
  • Excellent communication, advocacy, and networking skills
  • Experience providing trauma-informed support to clients in crisis
  • Current Working with Children Check and NSW Criminal Record Check
  • Willingness to obtain NSW Police Force Baseline National Security Clearance
  • Ability to undertake community outreach and attend court as required
