The role:
As a Counsellor, you will provide culturally secure, trauma-informed counselling, support, and advocacy to Aboriginal clients and their families impacted by forcible removal policies.
Your work will focus on healing, engaging clients throughout reunions and healing camps, and helping them reconnect with their families and culture. You will also participate in outreach, maintain client records, and collaborate with team members to deliver community-based healing services that respect Aboriginal family worldviews.
Requirements:
- Diploma of Counselling, Certificate IV in Mental Health, or higher qualification in a related field
- Experience providing evidence-based counselling to clients affected by past removal policies
- Strong understanding of Aboriginal cultural competency and the history of forcible removal
- Ability to build trust and strong relationships with clients and stakeholders
- Excellent organisational, communication, and time management skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and database management
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel as needed
- National Police Certificate (not older than 6 months)
