The Role:

The Counsellor Advocate provides trauma-informed counselling, advocacy, information and referral services to people impacted by sexual violence. The role delivers confidential, client-centred support to adults, children and young people, as well as their supporters, through face-to-face and crisis response services. You will support clients through healing, recovery and navigation of legal, justice and support systems. The position includes crisis counselling, case planning and participation in case conferences where appropriate. You will assist clients to engage with the criminal justice system and other legal or administrative processes as required. The role involves delivering on-call and call-out crisis support services. The position operates with a high level of autonomy while working under general direction and within organisational frameworks and values.

Essential Criteria:

  • Tertiary qualification (minimum Diploma) in social work, psychology, counselling, or significant relevant experience

  • Demonstrated knowledge of sexual violence and its impacts within a feminist and trauma-informed framework

  • Experience providing counselling, advocacy, information and referral services to people impacted by interpersonal violence

  • Ability to manage an independent workload while contributing positively to a team environment

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including report writing

  • Ability to build effective relationships with clients, communities and external stakeholders

  • Computer literacy, including use of Word, email and client databases

  • Current Working With Vulnerable People card, or ability to obtain one

  • Right to work in Australia
