The role:

As a Counsellor - FDV, you will provide trauma-informed counselling and support to children and young people impacted by family and domestic violence. Using evidence-based approaches, you will conduct assessments, develop safety plans, deliver individual and group counselling, and advocate for clients within a culturally appropriate framework. You will also build strong relationships with clients and community agencies, contributing to improved safety and wellbeing for vulnerable families.

This role involves maintaining accurate client records, participating in team meetings, and engaging in cultural events and continuous improvement activities. Your work will directly help empower Aboriginal children and young people by addressing the social and emotional impacts of domestic violence.

Requirements:
  • Tertiary qualification in Psychology, Social work, or Diploma in Counselling, or a minimum five years’ relevant experience
  • Experience working with children, young people, and families affected by family/domestic violence
  • Strong understanding of Aboriginal Culture 
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with agencies and stakeholders
  • Valid Driver’s License, National Police Clearance (within six months), and Working with Children Check
