Our Client:

Our client is a dynamic, forward-thinking, not-for-profit organisation that provides essential support services to people in need. Their programmes include emergency relief, financial counselling, family support, housing assistance, homelessness services, and refugee support. They also deliver financial literacy programmes, emergency relief, and financial counselling to Alice Springs and remote communities in Central Australia.

They are seeking a Financial Counsellor to join their team and provide confidential financial counselling and education to clients. You’ll play a key role in building financial resilience among vulnerable people through education, promotion of services, and outreach. This position offers relocation assistance, salary packaging benefits, additional leave entitlements, and access to professional development opportunities.

The Job:

As a Financial Counsellor, you will be based in the Alice Springs office, but a significant portion of your role will involve outreach services to remote communities. You’ll need to be comfortable travelling long distances and staying overnight in various accommodations, sometimes for up to two weeks. You’ll also receive training to drive a 4WD vehicle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide professional financial counselling to clients in Alice Springs and remote communities in Central Australia, either face-to-face or through telecommunication.
  • Travel to remote communities to deliver financial services and stay in various accommodations for extended periods.
  • Build financial resilience among vulnerable people through information, education, and promotion of services.
  • Assist with delivering services as per DSS funding guidelines, including the National Debt Helpline Appointment Booking Project.
  • Work collaboratively with the Financial Capability and Counselling team in Alice Springs and Adelaide under the guidance of the Senior Practitioner.

Essential Criteria:

  • Diploma of Financial Counselling.
  • Membership or eligibility for membership with the Australian Financial Counsellors Association (SAFCA).
  • Understanding of Central Australian First Nations culture and the ability to work with First Nations communities.
  • Willingness to travel across Central Australia with some overnight stays.
  • Knowledge of financial exclusion/inclusion concepts, hardship, relevant government policies, and financial counselling principles.
  • Experience delivering financial counselling services to clients.
  • NDIS, WWCC, Valid Driving Licence, Covid Vaccination
