Our Client

Our client is a well-established, not-for-profit organisation committed to supporting young people’s mental health and well-being across Western Australia. They offer a wide range of mental health services to individuals aged 12-25 at no cost, with a focus on helping those most at risk. As part of their mission, they also lead a number of youth-focused initiatives and community programs, providing vital support across regional areas.

The Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated Youth Counsellor to join their team in the South West region. This role is based in their local office, providing essential mental health services to young people in the area. The role involves working both in-office and through outreach, offering support through individual, group, and telehealth sessions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver counselling services to young people and their families through in-person, outreach, and online settings.
  • Conduct intake assessments and help manage client capacity as part of the Intake team.
  • Build and sustain relationships with local networks and services, ensuring young people have access to appropriate resources.
  • Keep accurate records of client interactions and adhere to data collection guidelines.
  • Participate in case reviews and team meetings to ensure coordinated care for clients.
  • Provide referrals to relevant services and work collaboratively with community partners to enhance service delivery.

Essential Criteria

  • Relevant tertiary qualification (Bachelor or higher) in Social Work, Counselling, Psychology, Occupational Therapy, or related field.
  • Professional membership or registration with a relevant body (e.g., AHPRA, ACA, AASW).
  • Experience working with young people who face mental health challenges such as depression, anxiety, suicide risk, and self-harm.
  • Competence in conducting risk assessments, safety planning, and providing ongoing support and referrals.
  • Strong knowledge of evidence-based clinical practices, particularly in working with youth and families experiencing complex issues.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Valid ‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence, reliable vehicle, and willingness to travel for outreach services (mileage reimbursement provided).
