The Role:

The Child Wellbeing Caseworker will be a vital part of the organisation on Norfolk Island. You will work collaboratively with families, community members, and professionals to ensure the safety and wellbeing of children and young people. Through early intervention, you will support vulnerable families, aiming to prevent involvement with the child protection system. Your responsibilities will include case management, delivering educational initiatives, and providing targeted support to at-risk children and families. You will also be responsible for investigating and assessing child protection concerns. Working closely with local carers, you will contribute to a service that is responsive, culturally sensitive, and aligned with the island’s socio-political context. Maintaining detailed records and upholding high standards of practice, you will be integral in shaping the community’s future.

Essential Criteria:
  • Recognised Social Work qualification, AASW eligible
  • Minimum 2 years of post-qualification experience in child and family social work with a focus on child protection.
  • Strong assessment and evidence-based intervention skills.
  • Experience in case management, including working with statutory interventions and out-of-home care.
  • Ability to tailor responses to a unique, remote community context.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and organisational skills.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Child Welfare Act 2009 (NI).
  • Demonstrated IT competence and ability to maintain accurate client records.
  • Commitment to child safety, wellbeing, and continuous quality improvement.
  • Flexibility and resilience to work in a remote, culturally diverse environment.
  • Willingness to participate in an out-of-hours duty roster and travel as required.
