 The Role
Our client is seeking an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Engagement Worker to support participants of a residential Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) program. This key position plays a vital role in strengthening cultural capability, improving access to services, and enhancing the cultural safety of the program.
The successful candidate will provide cultural input into service delivery, facilitate engagement with Elders and community organisations, lead Yarning Circles, and support the cultural development of staff and systems. They will also collaborate closely with management and clinical teams to ensure Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives are embedded in all aspects of care

Requirements
Essential:
  • Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
  • Relevant qualification in community services, social work, or similar, or extensive experience in cultural engagement roles
  • Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities, and service providers
  • Strong understanding of contemporary issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
  • Ability to influence service leaders and contribute to strategic and cultural frameworks
  • Capacity to lead and participate in cultural programs such as Yarning Circles and community partnerships
  • Knowledge of AOD sector principles, harm minimisation, and trauma-informed practice
  • Strong communication, cultural safety, and advocacy skills

Desirable:
  • Experience in service delivery, practice development or working within AOD, social services, or community health
  • Awareness of co-design, lived experience engagement and culturally inclusive practice
  • Commitment to The Society’s values: Integrity, Compassion, Respect, Diversity and Collaboration
  • National Police Check
  • Willingness to complete mandatory training and compliance requirements
