The role:

Join our client in a pivotal role where you can drive significant change and impact. As the Principal Solicitor, you'll lead our engagement in Closing the Gap initiatives and foster essential community partnerships. By maintaining key relationships with government bodies, justice sectors, and Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs), you'll play a senior leadership role, contributing to the strengthening of the Aboriginal community-controlled sector.
Your duties will include leading community partnerships, representing the client in relevant forums, and providing leadership support to the team. You'll be part of a movement dedicated to social justice and equity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, families, and communities. The client offers a supportive environment where diversity is celebrated, and professional growth is encouraged.

Essential Criteria:
  • Identifies as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
  • Legal qualifications and a NSW Practicing Certificate with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in criminal, care & protection, and/or family law, including family violence prevention, impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
  • Familiarity with the Aboriginal community-controlled sector and understanding of NSW Closing the Gap agreements, governance structures, and processes
  • Availability for travel to regional, metropolitan, and interstate locations
  • Previous experience in the Aboriginal community-controlled sector preferred
  • Compliance with police check, working with children check, and current COVID-19 vaccination requirements
