The Role
Our client is seeking a compassionate and motivated Lived Experience Peer Worker to join their AOD Services team in New South Wales. The role is central to supporting participants in their recovery journey from substance use, by offering guidance, hope, and peer-led support.
Working under the general direction of the Clinical Lead, the Peer Worker will co-facilitate group sessions, help individuals access services, and draw from their own recovery experience to support others. The position involves one-on-one participant support, assistance with program activities, and contributing to a recovery-oriented, trauma-informed approach to care.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide peer-based recovery support to individuals in AOD programs
  • Use lived experience to foster hope and engagement in treatment
  • Assist with navigating services and accessing community support
  • Participate in group facilitation and induction of new participants
  • Co-develop and support recreational or wellness activities
  • Drive participants to appointments and community activities as needed
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and confidentiality
  • Attend supervision and comply with relevant training and safety standards
Requirements
  • Personal lived experience of substance use and recovery
  • Peer work training completed (e.g., through DEN or SHARC)
  • Understanding of trauma-informed care and harm minimisation principles
  • Knowledge of the AOD sector and challenges participants face
  • Certificate IV in Community Services, AOD or Mental Health (or willingness to obtain)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Current driver’s licence
  • Working with Vulnerable People Check (or state equivalent)
  • Willingness to complete a National Criminal History Check
