The Role:
The Occupational Therapist Clinical Development Lead is responsible for developing and leading the Occupational Therapy team. This includes delivering line and clinical supervision for Occupational Therapists, identifying training and development needs and monitoring and giving feedback on individual KPIS. The clinical lead will provide clinical support as needed to the OTs and wider team. They will help ensure the team operates under evidence based practice guidelines and delivers high quality care. The Clinical Development Lead will work with the Community Services Manager to implement staff appraisals and performance management. The Clinical Development Lead will also be responsible for managing Occupational Therapy students. This may include liaising with universities, managing the students on placement directly or indirectly (through an experienced OT), giving appropriate feedback and ensuring the student experience meets needs.
The Clinical Development lead role has a direct clinical element. The mix of management time and clinical responsibilities is determined by the number of OTs and the number of hours the clinical lead is employed to work. This ratio will be reviewed at least 6 monthly or if there are any significant changes to the team. In their frontline clinical capacity the clinical lead OT is responsible for providing assessment and intervention for children, young people, and adults with, or at risk of, a disability or functional capacity concerns, with the focus being on the acquisition of the skills required to participate and perform everyday activities at home, in school and in community. The Occupational Therapist and Clinical Development Lead will perform a Key Worker role within the team where required, particularly for children under early childhood early intervention. The Occupational Therapist clinical lead will work within a the therapy and behaviour support team. The team provide holistic support to people across the lifespan who have an NDIS plan. There is a team focus on building the capacity, skills and knowledge of individuals and families, and mainstream services to ensure the inclusion of all people into mainstream services.

Essential Criteria:
  • Bachelor or Post Graduate Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Minimum of 5 years post graduate experience as an occupational therapist, including experience of working with people with a disability
  • Experience providing Occupational Therapy services in a person’s natural environment (home, school or community)
  • Understanding of the current trends and approaches underpinning the provision of early intervention services
  • Demonstrated experience prioritising workloads and managing clients with complex needs
  • Demonstrated commitment to Continuing Professional Development, Evidenced Based Practice, and measuring clinical outcomes
  • Ability to work as a collaboratively member of a trans-disciplinary team
  • Knowledge of confidentiality principles & WHS responsibilities
