The Role:

Our client is seeking a skilled and compassionate AOD Counsellor to join their Mental Health and Wellbeing team. This role plays a key part in delivering specialist alcohol and other drug (AOD) treatment and support services, including withdrawal management, harm reduction, counselling, and psychosocial services.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing evidence based counselling to individuals at risk of AOD-related harm
  • Facilitating therapeutic groups and psychoeducation sessions
  • Coordinating person-centred interventions in collaboration with families, clinical teams, and community services
  • Ensuring timely, accurate case notes and clinical reporting
  • Supporting program quality assurance, governance, and WHS compliance
  • Collaborating with local health networks to ensure holistic and integrated care
  • Representing the organisation at relevant community forums and events


Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Counselling, Social Work, or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years experience working in AOD and/or mental health services
  • Demonstrated ability to apply trauma informed, evidence-based therapeutic interventions
  • Proven experience in multidisciplinary case planning with allied health and government stakeholders
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to support quality improvement processes and risk management frameworks
  • Current National Police Check and Working with Children Check 
  • First Aid certification or willingness to obtain
